All custom-made hearing instruments are made from a “cast”, or impression of the ear. It can be made in the office in about 10-15 minutes. The audiologist and/or hearing instrument specialist places a special cotton or foam dam in the ear canal to protect the eardrum. Then a waxy material is placed in the ear that hardens into an impression in about 10 minutes. The ear canal can be oily after the impression is removed, which is perfectly normal. |
