CIC hearing aids are more effective and better than hearing implants for some

January 24, 2011
CIC hearing aids are better suited for some people with hearing loss. Is visibility of hearing aids a major concern in your purchase decision? If your answer is yes, you have probably considered a CIC hearing aids or a hearing implant. While the two are most always mentioned in the same sentence, there is only a few similarities. Both can be used while remaining invisible to people around you, and are equipped with the most advanced hearing technology. But that’s exactly where the similarities of these two end.

The more you read the facts and start to dissect the procedure of an implant, the more it seems irrational and totally unnecessary. Why would you go under the knife and have SURGERY for a problem that could be solved without surgery? CIC Hearing aids suit nearly every level of hearing loss, are personalized for your specific needs, and there is no questionable 4 to 5 hour surgery!

CIC hearing aids are the newest and most sophisticated answer to traditional hearing loss. While CIC hearing aids are made from a mold of you inner ear, they are customized in every way for your ear and your exact hearing loss. They can be programmed in every office and is as simple as changing the channel on your radio. While they are totally digital, and designed to be whistle free, patients enjoy clear communication without the annoying interruption of background noise.

One of the best differences between CIC hearing aids and hearing implants is that CIC hearing aids CAN be removed daily. You can choose whether you want to leave a hearing aid in over night, or would prefer to take it out while you sleep to promote better ear health is totally up to you. But you do have that option with a CIC hearing aid.  Implants are implanted into a hollowed out portion of the skull behind the ear... gross!!!!  They are inside your skull until you have another surgery to remove it.  What happened when new technology comes out? If hearing technology improves yearly as much as computers and similar electronics, why would a person want hearing technology in their skull from 9 years ago. Talk about out-dated!

Replacing the battery in CIC hearing aids is as simple as changing the battery in your television remote. Simply remove the hearing aid from your ear by grabbing the plastic tip. Remove the battery door and insert a new battery into the slot. Something this simple can seem like a hassle when you have an implant. Promoters of implants say they will last you around 10 years without a battery change. Implants to not require a new battery very often, but it does require SURGERY to have it done.

Some implants also require an overnight stay and a two-month healing and recovery process, before the device is even activated! Going through a unneeded recovery process for a procedure is a little unnerving. You can get the exact performance, or even better performance from a removable hearing aid that only takes 2-day for you to familiarize yourself with.

While most people will say spending a few thousand dollars on a hearing aid is quite a hefty investment. That’s exactly what it is, an investment, an investment is your health, your communication and your loved ones. And an investment of a few thousand dollars looks tiny compared to the $30,000 account ending implant investment. That is not a misprint, for some implants, the cost of the device itself, the implant procedure (including the cost of the implanting surgeon and his or her staff, the surgical facility, and the administration of general anesthesia), and the necessary return visits for turning on and programming the device to fit your unique needs will be approximately $30,000.

Your insurance may provide full or partial payments for CIC hearing aids. Depending on your plan and coverage. Southwestern can make the call and find out how much your insurance will cover. Implants are NOT covered on insurance plans.

This article was written to clear up any information about the similarities between CIC hearing aids and implants. Their uses and benefits differ greatly. CIC hearing aids are for people with mild to severe hearing loss, while the majority of implants are for those with severe hearing loss or more. So while you are contemplating which would be better for you or a loved one, try to pick the one without all the unnecessary procedures, surgeries and steps. Choose a CIC hearing aid for Southwestern!
