TRUST YOUR HEARING TO US: WHAT TO EXPECT AT YOUR APPOINTMENT
What you can expect with your free hearing test at Southwestern Hearing Centers.

After you call and set an appointment at one of our 23 convenient locations, the following steps will be taken (in order) to improve your hearing.

Meet and Greet - Meet with our friendly receptionist, and fill out a quick questionnaire with your general information.

Video Otoscope - The first step in your evaluation is a simple and painless video otoscope exam. This procedure allows you and your specialist to look over your ear canal together on a large video screen. Our specialist will check for excessive earwax, blockages, or any medical problems with your ear canal/eardrum.

History - Our specialist will then ask questions about your hearing history. This will give us a greater understanding of your hearing. You will be asked questions about your hearing, noise exposure, communication issues, and medically related issues such as tinnitus and dizziness. You will also be asked when and where you are having hearing problems, if you are experiencing any pain, and what expectations you have.

Hearing evaluation - A comprehensive pure-tone audiometric evaluation will be performed. During this test, you will be asked to respond to a series of sounds and beeps at varying volume levels and frequencies. This allows our hearing expert to determine the type and degree of hearing loss you are experiencing.

Speech Test - A discriminative comprehension test will be performed, using a loved ones voice to determine your comprehension level of words.

Audiogram - The audiologist and/or hearing specialist will sit down with you and explain the results of your evaluation. The results will be in an easy to read graph format, and show you how you're hearing compares with normal hearing ranges.

Improvement Options - If the specialist determines you have a hearing loss, and it can be corrected, he/she will go over all your options and appropriate referrals and/or recommendations will be made. The specialist will discuss your specific hearing loss, if cosmetics are an issue, and your personal lifestyle requirements..... Etc.

Demonstration - There are many hearing instrument sizes and models to choose from. You and your specialist will decide together, which style works best for your needs. Then your specialist will explain general functions of the aid, what you need to know for everyday use, how to change the batteries, and answer any questions.

Insurance - Once all of your options have been explained, we will call your insurance provider for you, and see how much will be covered (if determined that you could benefit from instruments). Insurance providers' benefits vary, depending upon your insurance plan.

Invest in your hearing - If you decide a hearing instrument is right for you, and purchase one, ear canal impressions may be needed depending on the model of hearing instrument you choose, because some models are customized for your unique ear canal. A wide variety of payment programs are available.

Delivery of Instruments - 2nd Visit - If you decided to purchase a hearing instrument, you will come in for a second visit. Customized instruments take a few weeks to be manufactured. During this visit your specialist will program the hearing instrument exactly for your hearing needs. This is the beginning of your 30-day risk FREE trial.

Generally, a visit to Southwestern Hearing Centers, including a free hearing test, will take about 1 hour. Remember to bring someone with you that has a familiar voice. We look forward to seeing you and making a difference in your life.
